Dr. Kathryn A. Sonpal was born in Cleveland, Ohio and attended Washington University in St. Louis for undergraduate studies in Biomedical Engineering. She received her DDS from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry and completed her Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency training at the University of Pittsburgh, which also involved training in General Surgery, Anesthesia, and Pediatric Anesthesia. During her undergraduate and postgraduate studies, Dr. Sonpal also conducted research in the areas of Radiation Oncology, Molecular Biology, and Dentistry. She has received many awards and distinctions, including the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons award for outstanding achievements and performance in undergraduate Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, National Society of Women Engineers Scholarship, and National Merit Finalist Scholarship.
Dr. Sonpal has held positions in several charitable and academic societies, including community service chair of Delta Sigma Delta Dental Fraternity and scholarship committee and community service cabinet member of Chi Omega Fraternity. These societies are active in both the dental community and Metro Detroit area to promote education, community outreach, philanthropy, and awareness. Their fundraising events have supported the Make a Wish Foundation, American Cancer Society, and other local charities.
Dr. Sonpal’s professional interests include third molar removal, dental implants, bone grafting, jaw surgery, TMJ treatment, and facial trauma. Dr. Sonpal lives in Rochester with her husband Marco. She enjoys riding horses, golfing, playing tennis, and spending time outdoors.
